Sometimes those impacted by sexual misconduct choose not to pursue charges and a formal investigation, but they still want to report what happened to them and/or have UVA intervene in some way with the other student. These students can pursue an informal resolution.
- In an informal resolution:
-
Those impacted by sexual misconduct may request that the Title IX Office have a developmental conversation with the other student, but not pursue charges against them.
- In this conversation, a staff member from the Title IX Office talks with the student about UVA's Sexual Misconduct Policy, including potential consequences for violating the Policy.
- They will have a conversation with the student about consent, respect, and UVA's expectations for their behavior.
- You will be asked to provide input on what you do and do not want to be addressed in this conversation.
If you pursue this option, you are still able to request that a formal investigation be initiated later.
Regardless of whether you pursue any action through the Title IX Office, there are steps UVA can take to limit your contact with the other student, including a no contact directive, housing accommodations, and/or academic accommodations.
